So the rumors have it. I could care less. I stopped listening to WBCN in the 90s. They may have at one point possessed a varied and interesting play list accompanied by cool and witty DJs, but not anymore. Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Sublime dominate their airwaves and after Howard Stern left, not one WBCN DJ has a funny bone in his or her body. Hopefully this will mean Boston alt rock station WFNX will gain WBCN’s listeners. I am sorry for those DJs who will lose their jobs and for the loss of WBCN’s Boston music show Boston Emissions.
Apparently WBCN is moving to Mix 98.5′s spot and turning into an all-sports station. 98.5 is, in turn, replacing WBCN at 104.1. Who cares. Head on over to Emerson College’s station at WERS 88.9 or WFNX at 101.7 for some actually decent tunes.

Comment by Dog July 14, 2009 @ 11:01 amYeah, potential loss of the rumble is awful.
Comment by Laura July 14, 2009 @ 11:41 amOther than that, I’m not too broken up about WBCN
goin off the air. They used to be proponents of new music
but not so mucha nymore.
but do we need another sports station? i’d rather have wbcn in all its metallica glory with the occasional local music boost than more sports
Comment by carlo July 14, 2009 @ 11:46 amYou’re right, Boston doesn’t need another sports station. And I’m relieved to find out Boston Emissions is moving to WZLX. Whew!!!
Comment by liv hauck July 14, 2009 @ 6:21 pmlivs i think you’re being a little insensitive…what about all the great djs that’ll lose their jobs? the rumble? bcn may not be what it used ot be, but there’s so much history and great things the station has done
